Cannabidol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis that boasts a wide range of medical applications. Though there are a myriad of potential benefits, a few are more commonly referenced than others.

And again, it is non-psychoactive which is ideal for patients who need to medicate and work throughout the day.
Strains containing elevated levels of CBD have only become available over the past half-decade; growers previously strove exclusively for high THC content. The resurgence of CBD has made cannabis increasingly accessible for those who are interested in its medical benefits, but don’t want to feel “high.”
This is also where the aforementioned “CBD/THC ratio” comes into play. Though CBD by itself is practically non-psychoactive, it’s nearly always coupled with at least a small amount of THC, which can provide psychotropic effects. For users who are comfortable with those effects, several strains (Harlequin, Cannatonic) are offered that routinely test in the 2:1 or 1:1 range. On the other end of the spectrum, strains like AC/DC and Remedy contain only trace amounts of THC, with as high as a 20:1 CBD/THC ratio. This ratio is ideal for patients who want to avoid the psychoactive effect of THC. So, what does the future hold for CBD? As with much of the work surrounding medical cannabis, more extensive research of CBD is currently being held back by marijuana’s classification as a Schedule I drug. Even with that considered, it’s hard to believe that the medical benefits of CBD can remain under wraps for much longer. The increasing prevalence of CBD-rich strains is an exciting development for medical cannabis users and can potentially open doors for those hesitant to accept marijuana as a remedy.
