Residual Solvent Analysis (RSA) determines how clean our concentrates are. All of our concentrates (Budder, Crumble, Honeycombs, Nectar, Sap, Shatter, Wax, Taffy) are tested at Steep Hill Halent Laboratories for a multitude of impurities, including acetone, butane, ethane, ethanol, isobutane, isopropanol, methane, methylbutane, propane, pentane, and hexane.

Two state-of-the-art laboratory instruments are used for this process. The first is a Headspace Autosampler that analyzes the various gases and vapors created by a cannabis sample. In headspace analysis, a gas-tight syringe is used to obtain a sample of these gases. Next, the sample is run through several Mass Spectrometers in order to separate, identify, and quantify the different compounds. This hi-tech machine works by analyzing the sample at a molecular level - an ionizing beam of electrons is run through the sample in order to ionize and separate the molecular makeup of the object, and in doing so, to be able to accurately identify and determine the amount and mass of each particle and compound contained within.

This methodology and instrumentation makes for arguably the most advanced chemical safety analysis used in the cannabis industry today.
